Gilad Atzmon with Ros Stephen’s Sigamos String Quartet
This year we have invited Gilad to return to the festival with Ros Stephen’s Sigamos String Quartet to perform their own beautiful interpretations of some of Charlie Parker’s legendary compositions. Their collaboration accentuates Gilad’s talented sax and clarinet sounds and pays tribute to the iconic “Bird” but in his own unmistakable manner.
Ros has performed with groups such as the Rosetta Ensemble, Ixiom Ensemble, Tango Siempre and The London Mozart Players to name but a few. The Quartet’s beautiful soft sweeps work wonderfully with Gilad’s thrilling musicianship.
Gilad, accompanied by Eddie Hicks on drums, Frank Harrison on piano, Yaron Stavi on bass, and the Sigamos Quartet blend classics by Richard Rodgers, Cole Porter, Hoagy Carmichael with sparkling original material that seems to recreate Parker’s pioneering free spirit.
So come and join us for this year’s Festival Jazz event in our village church for a sound that won’t have been heard here before.

“Maybe because he’s such a wild card himself, saxophonist Atzmon plays Charlie Parker with a perfect mix of bluster and vulnerability.
As his bluesy bebop improvisations on alto sax shoot across the bows of the supremely composed Sigamos String Quartet ... it's as perfect a jazz marriage as you could wish for.'
