Diversions
Divertissement - Scenes of French Life – followed by Jour de Fête, a film by Jacques Tati
Friday 25th September 7:30 for 8:00pm, Chiddingly Village Hall
An evening of Gallic-flavoured entertainment, beginning with mime, then a classic French film – there will be a cocktail bar and everyone is encouraged to dress appropriately, but please leave the onions and Gauloises at home!
"Chiddingmime presents: Divertissement - Scenes from French Life. "Chiddingmime presents a mime-dance devised by David Cullen to the music of French composer Jacques Ibert.
Each of the six movements of Divertissement will spring to life as a scene from 1920s France - a motor race, a wedding, a burglary... even the Foreign Legion makes an appearance (sans camels).
Local dancers will enact the scenes in a very energetic 20 minutes, with colourful props, hats and coats to complement the classical mime artist's black costume. A car crash is inevitable..."
Jour de Fête, by Jacques Tati
On the day of the annual visit of the fair to a traditional rural French village, the local postman is striving to match American speed and efficiency in his deliveries, using his native wit and guile. A wonderfully evocative comic classic of French cinema.
