An introduction to the Festival written by Mr Paul Newman.
When I was asked to write the introduction for the Chiddingly Festival I felt it both an honour and a privilege.
Thirty one years so far, (many more than a lot of people who witnessed its creation expected) and still very strong, trying new ideas and involving a wide range of people, especially the young.
Many of these young people were drawn in through the Village Show and now the Panto which is produced under the Festival umbrella. There they gained confidence - the confidence to stand on stage, to act, play music or sing.
Having been involved in two of these productions myself, many years ago, I know the time and hard work needed for rehearsal but also the fun to be had.
The Festival has grown over the years, presenting a great number and variety of events. Today there are more events and such diversity that every one in the village has a chance to see something they like.

On the technical side things have improved also, better lighting, better sound and better seating. This, like everything in the Festival, is organised by a team of dedicated volunteers, who I believe, are always on the lookout for more to get involved.
The audience is you. You make the intimate atmosphere the Festival is renowned for and this is the reward for those who do all the hard work. Let this Festival be another successful one!
