the soldier's tale
A story told with live music, acting and dance
MUSIC BY IGOR STRAVINSKY | LIBERETTO BY CHARLES-FERDINAND RAMUZ
The soldier, Joseph, gives his beloved violin to a mysterious stranger in exchange for a book which promises untold wealth and wisdom. He is forced to confront questions of what is valuable and what does it really mean to be rich in life.
In this community project supported by the Wealdway Community Play Fund, children from Chiddingly and East Hoathly Schools are working with animateur Caroline Welsh to weave their own answers to these questions into songs.
The Janus Ensemble “a terrific group of young, talented, enthusiastic players whose musicianship is exemplary” will perform Stravinsky’s exciting music and accompany the children in their songs. Joining them to tell the story will be actors Keith Drinkel, Simon Kane and Shaun Chambers and dancer Phoebe Horn.
Come early to meet the ensemble, see demonstrations of their instruments and a display of art work by the children. Be tempted by our “Party Bag” suppers for children and adults and the Festival Bar.
