Have a Fantastic Night!

The Annual Chiddingly Festival

Chiddingly Festival is a remarkable phenomenon. Now entering its 33rd year, it is a feast of the arts, run entirely by volunteers, yet attracting big name and quirky acts in a wide range of genres. Music, dance, beer, sculpture, comedy, graphic arts, theatre, story-telling and poetry for all ages all feature regularly. Its annual panto is an institution – and a hoot!

The Six Bells at ChiddinglyThe tiny rural village of Chiddingly is in East Sussex, between Lewes and Hailsham, North of Eastbourne. Like many small rural villages, life revolves around the Church, the Village Hall and the pub.  We used to have a shop and Post Office - those were the days!  Map

All tastes are catered for - music, art, dance, puppetry, theatre, poetry and storytelling. This is a quite amazing festival for such a small village, the festival is an event that makes Chiddingly unique.  And as always, the festival starts with a full peal of bells from the tower of Chiddingly Village Church.

Some of the irresistible events included the following

Gilad Atzmon  and the Sigamos String Quartet

Gilad 4'As his bluesy bebop improvisations on alto sax shoot across the bows of the supremely composed Sigamos String Quartet ... it's as perfect a jazz marriage as you could wish for.' Independent on Sunday

The Noise Next Door

The Noise Next Door 2011Billed as an improvised comedy troupe and performing together since 2005, The Noise Next Door will have you in stitches with their perfect blend of ludicrous characters, witty one-liners, epic stories and musical mayhem. These five slightly posh blokes are based in Brighton, but are touring venues around the world, with their distinctive brand of off-the-cuff humour.

Treasure Island

Treasure Island - Jan 2012

More pictures of this year’s fantastic Pantomime, Treasure Island, can be found in the 2011 gallery.  Make sure you do not miss next year’s show!

The City Musick

Sallaert173waits

This concert is a celebration of the music of the ‘waits’ – urban musicians who were famed in London for their artistry and skill on a par with those at the court. Waits were wind players first and foremost and this concert is a celebration of the broad repertoire waits would have played
